Almirola out of hospital after fracturing a vertebra

Almirola suffered a compression fracture to his T5 Vertebra after a multi-car accident at Kansas Speedway Saturday night.

NASCAR driver Aric Almirola suffered a compression fracture to his T5 Vertebra after his vehicle got in a vicious crash during the Go Bowling 400 on Saturday night.

Joey Logano said something broke on his No. 22 Ford going into Turn 1, which saw him hook the right-rear quarterpanel of Danica Patrick's vehicle. Medical teams placed him on a spine board and took him by stretcher to eventually be airlifted out to the University of Kansas Medical Center. That turned Patrick hard on into the outside wall; Logano piled straight into her. Almirola, unable to slow down piled into both cars on the high line. Emergency personnel eventually cut the roof off the No. 43 auto to remove Almirola from the mangled machine. He will fly to his home in North Carolina on Sunday and his driving status has yet to be determined.

Logano and Patrick were able walk away from the wreck, but their cars were mangled and had to be towed off the track.

Patrick lamented the fact that a good run got derailed by Logano's part failure.

Almirola, 33, is in his sixth full season driving for RPM and has one Cup victory. They collected Almirola's No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford.

"All I know is that I all of a sudden crashed", Patrick said. I'm praying for Aric right now.

The wreck all started when Logano reportedly had a brake rotor blow, sending him down into Patrick's rear quarter panel.

"I'm just saying a lot of prayers for Aric right now".

The Stewart-Haas Racing driver's already rough season was continued by the crash, something she was clearly frustrated about after leaving the infield care center.

The incident occurred just after a restart on Lap 199 of the 267-lap Go Bowling 400 at Kansas.

Martin Truex Jr. won the race on the final restart.
