5 lions escape from a South African wildlife park

A group of lions‚ which escaped from the Kruger National Park have attacked some cattle‚ the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency said on Tuesday. The latest we have is that one of them has been darted. They are not close to the sugar cane farms. "The lions have not been caught and that poses danger because that road is frequented by people", he said.

A carcass of a cow was found this morning.

He says the lion would have moved from the capture area overnight adding that lions were likely kicked out of their pride and thus went in search of another to join. The lions were on this carcass and were spotted by officials of the MTPA.

The lions escaped from the park along the border area. The army has a base at Macadamia which is on the road to Mananga.

"We urge people to refrain from taking photographs of these animals as they are unsafe predators ... and believed to have already killed a cow", said Thakhuli.

The lions escaped from the Kruger National Park on Monday, and are believed to be in the sugar cane fields in the area.

Police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi‚ speaking to Jacaranda FM‚ told motorists to stay in their vehicles while travelling on the N4.
