Preds beat Chicago 3-2, push Hawks to brink of elimination

Scott Burnside: Have to say that when the Blackhawks went up 2-0 in the second period on Patrick Kane's power-play goal, I was thinking history was about to repeat itself for Nashville, which had the Blackhawks on the ropes the previous two times they've met in the playoffs but couldn't match Chicago's depth and will to win.

Denied on two golden chances earlier in the extra period, Fiala converted his third point-blank opportunity at 16:44 to deliver a 3-2 win and a 3-0 series lead for Nashville early Tuesday. Teams which own 2-0 leads in National Hockey League playoff series go on to win more than 87 percent of the time.

Asked if this group can bounce back, Quenneville had a short answer: "We're going to have to".

Crawford stopped 46 shots in the defeat, while Pekka Rinne made 34 saves for Nashville.

Fiala threw his head back in disbelief, but the third time was his and Nashville's charm.

It doesn't appear Corey Crawford will be yielding the Blackhawks net to Scott Darling this time around against the Predators. Neal found Fiala positioned perfectly between four Chicago defenders, but Crawford was just able to get his pad on the puck.

"I was pretty angry there", he said. She gave a breathtaking performance of the National Anthem during an NHL playoff game April. 17 while wearing her husband's Nashville Predators jersey. Five catfish also were tossed onto the ice before the puck dropped and combined with a late start for a very loud standing-room only crowd of 17,204. Nashville seemed to own space in Chicago's collective psyche toward the end of Game 2.

A more traditional rush from an unconventional pair would finally snap the Blackhawks' postseason scoreless streak in the second period. He figured out the last part only after Dennis Rasmussen stood in front of the net unchecked (where Fiala should have been) and batted home a pass from Marcus Kruger.

Forsberg started the rally.

The replay and slo-mo from the announcers shows just how close the Predators came to giving up a wacky goal.

"It went off the shoulder and then off the glass and then straight in, so I didn't really see why they were talking", Forsberg said. The first goal was assisted by Vikton Arvidsson and the second by Ryan Ellis and Ryan Johansen.

"I haven't scored a goal in two games", Kane said.

The goalie interference rule states that goals should be disallowed if "an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease".

NOTES: This is Nashville's third straight overtime win at home in the playoffs.

And it worked out fine for the Predators, who won 3-2 to put themselves on the brink of the second round.

With that tally, Kane joins a trio of Blackhawks legends who have hit the 50-goal plateau in postseason play.

And then there's the party in Toronto, which hadn't hosted a playoff game since 2013.
