Pep Guardiola expecting tough test against Southampton

Like in weeks past, us at ManCitySquare made a decision to continue our Combined Best XI idea for this week's match.

Aguero has scored 10 goals in his last 10 games but the issue of his long-term future is still to be settled.

The 28-year-old City legend was in fine form at the start of the campaign, scoring 11 goals in just six games and Guardiola says his attitude was never in doubt.

Pep Guardiola will also be unable to call upon Gabriel Jesus and Bacary Sagna due to injuries.

That continued a dismal sequence for the Chilean, who was dropped after conceding six goals from six shots faced in back-to-back games against Everton and Tottenham in January.

"I said before, at the end of the season we are going to speak about the players who are under contract next year and the loan players", Guardiola said at a press conference.

After a goalless first half at St Mary's Stadium, Pep Guardiola saw Kompany head in his first Premier League goal since August 2015 from David Silva's corner.

"I'm really happy and I want to stay there".

"After that, if he misses chances or misses other things, always you can improve but I have no complaints".

The main talking point of a low-key first half came when Sane was upended in the area by Forster after latching onto Yaya Toure's throughball, but referee Neil Swarbrick did not award a penalty, with replays indicating the goalkeeper may first have got a slight touch on the ball.

"Hopefully that experience will help us for next season".

John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have arrived and, though each has shown glimpses of their undoubted quality, both are susceptible to the kind of mistake that was so rare from City when Kompany was at the peak of his powers.

Although Manchester City is the more talented team, that doesn't necessarily mean they will come out with the win.

"He said 'no problem, I've done it before many times in my career, I can do that.' Now he can play again and again because he's convinced me he can do it at a high level". Watford, Leicester City, Burnley FC, Stoke City, and West Ham are all four points or less behind the ninth place Saints.
