Liverpool's Mane to miss rest of season with knee injury

"We're not 100 percent sure when it will happen, but it is clear his season is over", Klopp told a news conference.

Senegal worldwide Mane, who has scored 13 Premier League goals this season, suffered the injury during Liverpool's 3-1 win over Everton in the Premier League last weekend.

"That is what I half-expected when I saw him after the game", Klopp said. It's alarming that in a season when many felt Liverpool had an advantage over others in that they had no European fixtures to contend with, they are still losing important players at a ridiculous rate. He will have a long break until next season.

Initial reports suggested Mane's injury was a minor one, but on Friday Klopp confirmed that the player would have to go under the knife.

The first of those games comes away to Stoke City on Saturday, with Jordan Henderson (foot) and Adam Lallana (thigh) definitely out, while there are doubts over Philippe Coutinho (illness) and Daniel Sturridge (hip).

On April eighth, Stoke City host Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp's side looks to regain their momentum and push into the Champions League.

The Reds remained third, and extended their advantage over fifth- and sixth-placed Arsenal and Manchester United to nine points, although the chasing duo hold three games in hand.

"Coutinho is still ill".

"It compromises our situation and makes like not easy".

"Arsenal usually finish in a strong way and the top four still have to play each other, but it's hard to see Arsenal making it", said Henry to Sky Sports.

Liverpool dropped points in the top-four race on Wednesday night after Joshua King scored a late equaliser to help Bournemouth secure a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

"Again, around the second goal, Sadio would not have been too much involved in defending so the influence of missing Sadio was not too big".

Liverpool can not settle for anything but a win in this match after their disappointing 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in midweek, as they are in real risk of losing out on a tightly contested top 4 position should they drop more points.
