Fresno shooting spree suspect "callous", laughed recounting killings, chief says

Fresno shooting spree suspect

Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, is in police custody after allegedly gunning down three white men in a what is said to have been a racially motivated killing spree in Fresno, California, Tuesday.

The Fresno shooting rampage in which police say a black man killed three white men in an alleged hate crime took less than two minutes Tuesday.

"What he told our detectives last night was that once he saw he was wanted for murder, he was not going to go down for shooting a security guard for disrespecting him, but that he was going to kill as many white males as possible", Dyer said on Wednesday.

Sayed Ali Ghazvini, imam of the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno, said Muhammad was not a member of his congregation and he did not recognize him.

Lilles confirmed Gassett was a client, and she said he was a veteran.

The suspect who police say took three lives in downtown Fresno, Calif., had meant to go on a lethal rampage once he found out that he was being sought for an earlier homicide, police say. Gassett leaves behind two children, as does 34-year-old Zackary Randalls.

The man had just gone shopping at a Catholic Charities building when he was gunned down.

The shooter, who was armed with a revolver, reloaded his gun and headed towards Catholic Charities on North Fulton Street in Fresno where he encountered a man in the parking lot and killed him.

Randalls had just joined PG&E as a customer service representative six weeks ago, said the IBEW 1245 local chapter to which Randalls belonged. The gun may have been picked up by someone else, Dyer said.

Dyer says Muhammad calls himself Muslim but also said he claims to pray to seven different gods.

Police say Muhammad gave rare and unusual details about his movements and the killings over several hours of questioning following his arrest, even returning with officers to the crimes scenes and demonstrating his actions.

He now faces four counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. The victim's co-worker drove him to police headquarters, but Randalls died. He told his family there was a war going on between blacks and whites in America. He is also wanted in connection with the fatal shooting last week of an unarmed security guard at a motel in Fresno. The gunman who killed 13 people in a terror attack at Fort Hood, Texas, screamed "Allahu akbar" as he opened fire in 2009, and the phrase is often tweeted by social media accounts sympathetic to Islamic State and other terror groups. Police suspect that the man responsible for three shooting.

At one point in the video, Muhammad mouths the lyrics: "Demanding justice for the murders of my black kin; Hollow points make a white devil body spin".

The attack occurred over less than two minutes with Muhammad firing a total of 16 shots.

Muhammad, born Cory Allen Taylor, had a criminal history that dated to 1997 and court documents also indicated that he had been determined in 2005 to suffer from a mental disease rendering him incapable of standing trial in a felony case.

"We know that he has some posts that says that he does not like white people", Dyer said.

He claimed insanity after being charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute in 2005, and his attorney requested a psychiatric examination, saying Muhammad "appeared eccentric with some freaky beliefs".
