Firmino grabs another winner, Liverpool beats West Brom 1-0

Roberto Firmino scored Liverpool's victor as they saw off West Bromwich Albion with a 1-0 victory to move up to third in the Premier League.

Firmino's goal was the highlight of what was largely a poor match.

Was involved in the few things that Liverpool did well.

The visitors could have extended their lead after halftime but James Milner blazed a glorious opportunity over the bar and Divock Origi had a goal ruled out for offside.

The Brazilian global bagged his 11th Premier League goal of the season to emerge as the star performer for the visitors, while Simon Mignolet deserves credit for his second-half save in particular to deny Matt Phillips to preserve Liverpool's lead as he put in a great performance too.

Lucas flicked on James Milner's right-wing free-kick and the Brazilian stole ahead of Craig Dawson to head home from close range.

Liverpool nearly added a wonderful second 11 minutes into the second period.

The Spanish left-back broke well enough but as panic flashed before his eyes, he struck a shot just inside West Brom's half that dragged wide.

Liverpool was the better team at The Hawthorns but almost got picked off late on in West Brom's only clear sight of goal.

Phillips collected a return pass from Salomon Rondon after the substitute powered towards the opposition penalty area, but Mignolet stood firm to block his effort behind.

"It was a great win, they're a tough team to play against".

Alberto Moreno had a golden opportunity to put the result beyond doubt at the death when Ben Foster went up for a corner, leaving his goal wide open, but he missed the target.

- Liverpool have won 66 points from 33 games this season; six points more than they picked up in the entirety of 2015-16.

- Since the start of last season, Firmino has been directly involved in 34 Premier League goals (21 goals, 13 assists), more than any other Liverpool player.
