Delta cancels flights for third day after storm hits Atlanta

The No. 2 U.S. airline said it had canceled around 3,000 flights in the wake of Wednesday's storms that left passengers stranded and frustrated during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

Tampa International Airport managed to avoid the brunt of it Friday with 95 delays and 34 canceled flights as of 4 p.m. For Delta, these have been some of the worst days since the airline was forced to shut down in August of 2016 because of serious computer issues.

The cancellations have also impacted travelers at Bradley International Airport. More than 3,000 flights are affected after storms rolled through the south on Wednesday. The projected wait time on the phone was 1½ hours.

"These are important elements of our overall safety system that we ensure that a crew is alert and able to accomplish the flight in a safe manner", Marcontell said.

Now three future flight departures are delayed at the Tallahassee International Airport.

Travelers whose flights are canceled can get a refund. So, we are trying to get re-booked for tomorrow - they can get us out of Atlanta, but they can't get us to Atlanta.

"Delta reps have been encouraging people to check their bags for fear there isn't enough room on the flights".

Even a caption got in on the action (given his skill set was not now being engaged in the activity of flying a plane anyway).

Multiple flights from Atlanta to Tallahassee have also been delayed.

The rate of canceled flights has "slowed considerably today", Thomas said Saturday, adding that he expects things Sunday to return to "close to normal".

This is not how Ted Zheng wanted to spend his Saturday morning.

Instead, her husband will drive from MS to Atlanta to pick her up, then head to the Memphis airport to pick up her vehicle before going back to Starkville.

"This is the bouquet my mom made me for my wedding".

"I booked a flight to my home in Minneapolis that's been delayed five hours so far".

"While we can't control the weather, we understand the resulting recovery has not been ideal and we apologize for that", West said.

Wednesday's storms were the second wave of severe weather to hit the state this week. Please check with your airlines directly on flight times. That has helped boost the airlines' profits but makes it harder to rebook passengers when flights are canceled. I'll fly Delta again.

Delta was surprised by the level of support they received on Twitter. But four days later? Additionally, Delta has ranked No.1 in the Business Travel News Annual Airline survey for an unprecedented six consecutive years. So I'm with them. There are hundreds of people sleeping on the airport floor, including older people and members of the military.
