China president's plane stops in Alaska after Trump visit

Earlier on Thursday and Friday, Xi had the first face-to-face meeting with his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

April 7, 2017 ANCHORAGE-Governor Bill Walker today welcomed to Alaska His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China and Madame Peng Liyuan, First Lady of the People's Republic of China. China's capital city of Beijing will host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, while Alaska, the far north US state, has abundant natural resources as well as snow and ice.

According to the Associated Press, Xi requested time with Gov. Bill Walker Friday night when the Chinese delegation's plane made a refueling stop in Anchorage. Alaska's economy widely relies on the offshore resources as six of the country's biggest oil fields and one of the largest gas fields are located on the territory of the state and grant it the access to 13 percent of USA oil and 30 percent of the country's gas resources. The waters are home to the endangered Beluga whale.

The Three Character Classic, known as "san zi jing" in Chinese, is a Confucian classic text used to teach young children in China, Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post reported today.

Walker said he was eager to tell Xi about the abundance of Alaska's resource development opportunities.

A distant second on the export list are minerals and ores, accounting for 27 percent.

"I believe there might be a boom of Chinese visitors traveling to your state as tourists, I will be happy to see that if that is true", Xi said.

Xi is the second major world leader to spend time in Alaska's largest city in the last few years. Its biggest export was fish.
