Child Dies After Suffering Head Injury At Atlanta's Sun Dial Restaurant

The Sun Dial rotating restaurant and bar sit atop the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in downtown Atlanta. "Pulling furniture, turning over tables, trying to administer first aid, but just want not successful in saving the child's life", Pickard added, terming it as a "very tragic incident".

The boy, whose head was caught within about 5 inches (13 cm) of space, according to police, was identified as Charles Holt of Charlotte, North Carolina, an investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said on Saturday. "A small child don't know what to do in those moments, and it crushed his little small body". The unconscious boy was rushed to the Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment; however, the boy passed away later.

Pickard said he did not want to comment on whether anything like this has ever happened before.

The rotating floor reportedly shut off automatically, and Westin hotel staff worked for 30 minutes to free the child. It did so here, but it was too late as the child's head has suffered the brunt of the injury, the report said.

In the statement, Reed said the hotel is working with authorities and will assist them in the investigation. He added that their thoughts and prayers were with the victim's family.

In a statement, the owner of the restaurant, George Reed, said "words can not express the depths of our sorrow".

Westin general manager Ron Tarson said at the time that thoughts were with the boy's family.
