"But there will be no compromise on the quality of the food", he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Referring to demonetisation, the Chief Minister said his government will not hesitate to take any major decision for the benefit of the people of the state.

Replying to a related question from Owaisi, Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said: "What is being done in Uttar Pradesh is about illegal slaughterhouses. In fact, it is directly linked to the health of people, who have the right to good quality of meat and fish".

"The government would not differentiate on the basis of caste, religion or gender".

"There has been a court order about illegal abattoirs which was not implemented by the previous government".

UP Govt hikes Kailash-Mansarovar subsidy by 100 pc: UTTAR Pradesh Government on Saturday doubled the financial subsidy given to the pilgrims going to Kailash Mansarovar yatra this year. "If I had rejected the proposal, I would have been seen as running away from responsibility".

Adityanath has also asked senior state government officials to pull up their socks and ensure that 30 districts of the state are open defecation-free by December.

"I have sold only half of (meat) what I would sell normally", Chand Qureshi, a meat seller in Shahberi market of Noida Extension, told IANS. People who believe in the law of the land can continue to live here.

"All the illegal operations in slaughterhouses should end now", Adityanath said Sunday at a rally in his hometown of Gorakhpur, where he is also the high priest of the Gorakhnath Math, a religious order based in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
