Tom Crean Fired: With An End Comes a New Beginning

IU didn't make the prestigious NCAA tournament, settled bid in the NIT and lost the first game. Only a year ago, Crean had been named the Big Ten's coach of the year and won his second league championship in four seasons. But he added that it felt like "a distant relationship" compared to other schools recruiting him. And Indiana committed 16 turnovers that led to 22 Georgia Tech points.

It's a resume that should be celebrated, not condemned.

He expects the search to take some time due to the first round of the NCAA Tournament beginning Thursday.

IU director of athletics Fred Glass said at a press conference Thursday that the decision is going to take time, as he will consult with basketball experts from around the country and throughout the state of IN to find the right fit for the program. He started out by talking about how coaches getting fired is part of the business, and then he talked about IN and UCLA. "I was surprised. Put it this way: I'm in a wheelchair, and I nearly got up and danced". "I think through a variety of situations, we haven't been there since 1987". On top of that, IN guard Robert Johnson went 1-for-8 from the field including 0-for-5 from behind the arc. IN methodically pecked its way back into the game and tied it 24-24 on Blackmon's layup. To paraphrase what at least one former Hoosier said about the job, it's not a question of who will be interested, it's a question of who is the right person for the job.

Could Steve Alford leave Hollywood to go home?

Assembly Hall is one of the best atmospheres in college basketball, so getting recruits for games is a major bonus, and the facilities outside of Assembly Hall are also very impressive, so the job has a lot going for it.

Crean finishes his tenure 166-and-135, including 71-and-91 in Big Ten play.

The Hoosiers tied up the game at 24-24 after a Curtis Jones' dish to Blackmon led to a breakaway layup with 4:19 on the clock, however the Yellow Jackets would close out the half on a 10-3 run to take a 34-27 lead into the break.

It's a resume that screams out to Hoosiers fans, and reminds them of everything they want to be. It's just news. It's March Madness, and unfortunately in our business you're either on top or something like this is happening to all of us. "I've been in a long time, 26 years now". This is going to be the most debated job opening of the spring.
