Telecom tribunal asks regulator to re-examine Jio's Happy New Year Offer

Telecom tribunal asks regulator to re-examine Jio's Happy New Year Offer

BSNL is offering 2GB of data per day and unlimited calls to BSNL network at ₹339 per month.

In its interim appeal, Airtel had sought a stay on Trai's approval to Reliance Jio to continue with the free services. The telco had also launched 10 Prime packs of users that join the network before March 31, 2017, and had also launched a buy one get one free offer for Jio Prime users. Bharti Airtel is offering up to 30 GB mobile data free of cost to celebrate its rating as India's fastest mobile network by Ookla, a customer care executive said, adding that the scheme is being offered to postpaid subscribers. Prime members will also have special data offers and higher data usage packs, apart from generic tariff plans starting at Rs 149 per month, which offers unlimited calls without any restrictions, bundled with 1GB of data (28 days validity).

After RJio's Welcome Offer launch, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular had petitioned TDSAT, alleging that Trai acted as a mute spectator while Jio flouted regulatory norms and that its tariffs were discriminatory, predatory and non-IUC compliant.

It brings unlimited plans with free calling in its own network. The users can avail the free data by clicking on the banner "claim free data". However, please be advised that users will only get 3G speeds, unlike Airtel or Jio. If you already have a data plan, this free data will be added to it, thereby increase your monthly limit. "We offer best prices to our customers considering the present trend of Indian telecom industry", BSNL Director for Consumer Mobility RK Mittal said. Here, BSNL is allowing 25 minutes per day for the off-net calls, but BSNL is prepared to give 2GB of data per day.

Earlier this month, BSNL has introduced new plans for its postpaid users. This service was to conclude by the end of 2016 which was however extended with a fresh marketing tactic named as "Jio Happy New Offer' and extended another 90 days".
