Samsung Galaxy S8 Sporting The Same Facial Recognition As The iPhone 8?

To be clear, the iris scanner will still be offered in the Galaxy S8, but Samsung made the decision to add the facial scanning to offer you another way to unlock your device, and perhaps do it more efficiently.

Last August Patently Apple posted a report titled "Samsung Patents for an Iris Scanner come to Life in the new Galaxy Note 7".

Thanks to prolific leakster Evan Blass, we already know that the Galaxy S8 will sport a radical near bezel-less design with dual curved edges with the fingerprint sensor relocated from the front to the back of the smartphone. The handset may feature facial recognition technology, adding another layer of security alongside a fingerprint and iris scanner. But the rumors still continue to float just to reveal everything about the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus that comes from an official appearance on the FCC website.

Officials at Samsung Electronics said on March 8, 'We made a decision to have Galaxy S8 mounted with the face recognition function since iris recognition is limited in terms of accuracy and speed of recognition. He claims that the new technology takes less than 0.01 seconds to unlock a phone.

In short, there's seemingly very little left that could surprise us come Samsung's official Unboxing event on March 29. "Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be out in Black, Silver and Violet (!) colors, retail listings show". The Samsung has supposedly dropped all its physical buttons from the front in a clever ploy to keep the device small enough to use in one hand.

This week it emerged the phone's actual release could be delayed until April 29, however, due to a shortage of components according to a report from Venture Beat's Evan Blass.
