Real Madrid, Barcelona to play Clasico in America

El Clasico rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid are to meet at the Hard Rock Stadium in Chicago on July 29, it has been confirmed.

Arguably the world's greatest club soccer rivalry is headed to American soil for one night only.

The formal announcement was made during a press conference on Friday that featured legends from both sides such as Hristo Stocihkov and Roberto Carlos.

The game is part of the International Champions Cup, an annual pre-season tournament which has been going since 2013, and will take place at 65,000-capacity Hard Rock stadium, home of National Football League franchise the Miami Dolphins.

"When they come to play a game, there's nothing friendly about it", ICC co-founder and Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said.

The teams have played outside their native country only once before in their history, in 1982 in Venezeula. Real won that match, 1-0, on a goal by eventual Spanish national team manager Vicente del Bosque.

He spoke with Real Madrid and Barcelona presidents Florentino Perez and Josep Maria Bartomeu back in December to arrange the match. "There is a huge soccer fan base here, it is easy to get here for fans in Latin America and Europe, and our players like to visit here". 'We are fully aware of how passionate people are about futbol here in Miami, ' he said.
