AT&T launches unlimited data on prepaid plans, but prepare to be disappointed

All of these plans have their fair share of issues, but AT&T's new unlimited plan for GoPhone customers might be the worst of the bunch. This plan offers unlimited talk, text and 6GB of data that rolls over each month. For most users who consume a reasonable amount of data, the old 8GB plan can reach speeds three to four times faster and is a little cheaper by $5. That speed is cut even more if you want to watch a video. The bad news is that AT&T caps GoPhone unlimited data speeds at 3Mbps and limits video streams to 1.5Mbps, resulting in a max resolution of 480p. You'll get access to high speed internet for your first 6GB each month, but after you hit that limit, you'll be throttled all the way down to 128Kbps. You also won't be able to tether another device to your phone.

The telecom giant announced on Friday its latest plan which includes unlimited data to all the GoPhone customers for $60/ month. That speed will drop down to almost unbearable levels if you exceed 22GB of data within your billing period and are connected to a high-traffic cell tower.

Nevertheless, AT&T's new unlimited plan for its GoPhone customers might be the worst of all. 128Kpbs is at least flawless if you're still playing Warcraft II over dial-up.

There are some finer details of this plan that you should be aware of. "AT&T GoPhone customers now have even more flexibility to pick the plan that fits their needs as well as the ideal device from a selection of premium smartphones they really want".

Finally, AT&T's GoPhone service is offering deals on select smartphones.
