Police searching for Clemson athletics department official

The Clemson athletic department official who was reported missing Monday afternoon was found dead Tuesday, the Anderson County Sheriff's office has confirmed. He was found in a wooded area more than a mile from his property in Easley, South Carolina.

Henderson began his Clemson career in 1978 as an athletic trainer. His work in the office of planned giving involved setting up meetings with donors and ensuring the financial stability of Clemson's athletic programs.

Anderson County sheriff's deputies said in a news release that 60-year-old Bert Henderson was last seen at his home on West Church Road. "We ask anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to contact their local law enforcement agency", a university statement read prior to his being found dead Tuesday. "Please keep his family in your thoughts & prayers".

Sheriff deputies' search overnight into Tuesday in the upstate of SC included K-9 teams, Anderson County Technical Rescue and officers on horseback.

K-9 teams and Anderson County Technical Rescue were called to assist at the scene through the night.

Henderson's home in Easley is a rural town located about 20 minutes from the university.

Henderson works with donors to help establish the best method to provide gifts to Clemson athletics' future.
