Kerala: BJP worker hacked to death in Thrissur

A 20-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party worker in Kerala was reportedly killed late Sunday night.

Nirmal was stabbed during a melee at a local temple festival.

The rise in conflict between the BJP-RSS alliance and the CPI (M) has been at a rife for the past few months.

BJP has alleged that CPM workers are behind the murder and have called for a strike in Thrissur district. His friend Midhun, 29, son of Chiriyankandath Johny, who was injured in the attack, is undergoing treatment in a hospital.

It may be recalled that last month three BJP workers were killed - one in Kannur and two in Palakkad. They also called for a dawn-to-dusk strike following the murder.

Though the BJP in the district accused the CPI (M) of being involved in the murder, the police refused to confirm whether it was a case of political killing.

BJP alleges that more than 400 attacks on its cadres and RSS volunteers have been carried out in the state in 2016. Attended by CPM district leaders, the convention started off series of meetings by the ruling party to be held across the state to explain "what really happened'".
