Fire inside Disneyland parking structure prompts evacuations

Officials said Tuesday they narrowed the origin of a Disneyland parking lot fire to two vehicles, though they weren't sure which was the culprit.

Seven Disneyland employees were treated for smoke inhalation, the OC Register reports.

Nearly $180,000 (£145,000) worth of damage was caused by the fire at the theme park in Anaheim, California, on Monday afternoon. "At this time we don't know the extent of the damage to all those vehicles, but nine vehicles were impacted by the fire", Sgt. Daron Wyatt with the Anaheim Police Department stated. The investigation into the cause of the fire was underway, officials stated.

The parking structure has floors named after Disney characters and provides about 10,000 parking spaces.

"Due to the extreme heat produced by the fire, the configuration of the vehicles, and their proximity to one another, the exact cause and origin can not be determined without further testing and evaluation".

Initial damage was estimated to be around $180,000, firefighters said.

Four cars were totally destroyed, while another four sustained significant damage. The cause of the fire is now under investigation, but there is nothing to suggest foul play at this time. Another one to three more vehicles reportedly incurred minor damage from radiant heat.
