Edward James Olmos to Head 'Sons of Anarchy' Spinoff 'Mayans MC'

Now, the new series nets its first major casting, as Battlestar Galactica lead and all-around legend Edward James Olmos takes a leading Mayans MC role.

Olmos will play EZ's father Felipe, described as "the once strong Mexican patriarch, crushed by bullets and hard labor, who struggles to keep his past buried and lead his sons down a lawful, righteous path". Mayans MC will also be set away from northern California where SOA was based. Until then, catch Olmos on ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Sutter has co-written the pilot and will direct it. He added, "Couldn't be more creatively and personally satisfied to have this soulful cat on board".

Now, a key player in the SOA spinoff "Mayans MC" has been cast. Jax's gang originally considers The Mayan as a rival, but eventually the two gangs work together as partners.

Filming for "Mayans MC" is expected to start in March and if the pilot is successful, the show could get picked up to series by FX.

The show will pick up precisely where Sons of Anarchy left off, although show creator Kurt Sutter has suggested on previous occasions that the tone and style of Mayans MC will be markedly different.
