Charles Oakley and Knicks talk truce

Michael Jordan may have brokered a truce in the bitter feud between the owner of the New York Knicks and a beloved former star player.

"Both Mr. Oakley and Mr. Dolan were apologetic about the incident and subsequent comments, and their negative impact on the Knicks organization and the National Basketball Association", said Silver in the release.

Oakley and Dolan have had a strained relationship in part because of Oakley's criticisms of the team.

The Knicks have received blow-back from the ban, including demands from Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams and Rev. Al Sharpton to drop the ban and charges against Oakley.

Jordan was a teammate of Oakley's in Washington and Chicago, and the two men are close friends.

Dolan then came out publicly and said the Oakley was banned from attending Knicks for the foreseeable future after the incident.

Oakley was charged with three counts of assault at Madison Square Garden after the Knicks say he "behaved in a highly inappropriate and completely abusive manner", per Steve Popper of USA Today.

Oakley got into a shoving match with security personnel at last Wednesday night's matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Other witnesses have said that Oakley was talking to fans and began shouting obscenities at a security guard, calling him a "rat b**tard" who was always "sucking on Dolan's d**k". The Knicks have suggested Oakley has anger issues and possibly an alcohol problem.

"I appreciate the efforts of Mr. Dolan, Mr. Oakley and Mr. Jordan to work towards a resolution of this matter".

The Jordan-Oakley connection goes back over 30 years, with the two playing on the Bulls together from 1985-1988.

MSG's PR campaign culminated in the return of Latrell Sprewell - another Knicks fan favorite who had been ostracized for more than a decade thanks to a personal feud with Dolan - for Sunday's win against the San Antonio Spurs.

At a press conference on Monday afternoon, Adams said a scheduled meeting with Dolan was postponed after he was told "new developments" arose.
