At least 30 killed in Taiwan bus crash

Local television showed a video of the bus shot from behind flipping onto its side and skidding towards the hillside after it hit a road barrier when negotiating a highway interchange curve.

Around 40 people were reportedly on board when the bus crashed on a road close to the capital, Taipei.

And they added at least 13 people were seriously injured and were now being treated in hospital. No foreign nationals were thought to be aboard.

The bus was returning from a cherry blossom tour in Taichung City when it overturned while taking a corner at about 9 p.m. and veered off the highway.

No immediate explanation of the cause of the accident was given.

Taiwan's Central News Agency reports that it is believed that 44 people including the driver were inside the bus when it flipped over. Among the victims, 30 people died at the scene while two died in the hospital.

"The whole frame of the bus changed shape, got crushed and left no openings".

Twenty ambulances have been sent to the scene, according to news agency CNA.
