Riders stuck on top of rollercoaster at Movie World

- Nine News Gold Coast (@9NewsGoldCoast) January 11, 2017#BREAKING: Firefighters at top of Movie World's Arkham Asylum rollercoaster working to free passengers stuck on the ride.

The Courier Mail reported that it was the the Arkham Asylum ride that malfunctioned, and initially said dozens of people were trapped.

A Queensland fire and emergency services spokeswoman said all 20 patrons were rescued from the stalled ride by 1.30pm.

QLD fire service confirmed they were now working to rescue around 20 people stuck on the ride.

Australian media said that there were no reports of injuries but a triage area had been set up within the park.

The incident took place at the Warner Bros Movie World park, owned by Australia's Village Roadshow Ltd.

The Giant Drop, The Tower of Terror II, WipeOut and Hot Wheels (formerly the Cyclone) were among the big rides closed on Tuesday.

The incident follows the deaths of four people on the neighbouring Thunder River Rapids Ride at Dreamworld in October, which prompted a sweeping Queensland government safety audit of local theme park rides.

Ardent Leisure said all of its rides are scheduled to open again "before the end of January 2017".
