Oscar De La Hoya arrested on suspicion of DUI

Oscar De La Hoya was arrested for driving while under the influence in California Tuesday night, according to a report.

De La Hoya was stopped for speeding in a Land Rover in Pasadena, according to police.

After an officer smelled alcohol inside the SUV, the former fighter failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.

"While the investigating officer talked with the driver outside of the vehicle, he continued to detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the driver's breath and person. The driver was arrested".

De La Hoya has had well-publicized struggles with drug and alcohol addiction in the past, and he has been to rehab multiple times.

The Mexican-American is founder and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, which handles one of the biggest stars in boxing, Canelo Alvarez.

De La Hoya won several world titles in six different weight classes before his retirement.

A Golden Boy Promotions spokesman declined to comment when reached by ESPN. He was scheduled to head a press conference in Los Angeles to promote the fight between Francisco Vargas and Miguel Berchelt and he was not present for the conference.

In 2011, De La Hoya missed the light heavyweight championship between Bernard Hopkins and Jean Pascal because he had checked into rehab.
