JT Barrett will return to Ohio State for senior year

With one more year of eligibility left, Barrett announced on Wednesday that he will be returning to Ohio State for his senior season to try and bring the Buckeyes another national championship. He said Wednesday he'll be returning to Columbus for his senior season.

Barrett will take to the field August 31 at IN with a new quarterbacks coach and a presumed new offensive coordinator.

Ohio State and head coach Urban Meyer continually recruit some of the top talent in the nation year-in and year-out, and with Barrett under center in 2017 the Buckeyes have a realistic shot at making it back to the College Football Playoff again next season. Had he declared for the draft in May, he'd be likely be drafted behind multiple quarterbacks.

The Buckeyes' season came to an end with a 31-0 loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl.

In 2016, Barrett was 233-379 passing for 2,555 yards, 24 scores and seven interceptions.

Barrett's rushing stats were down in 2016 too. After being named the starter just weeks before the 2014 season, following Braxton Miller's shoulder injury, Barrett went on to complete 203 passes for 2,834 yards and 34 touchdowns with only 10 interceptions.

The young quarterback's confidence took a nosedive in 2015, when not only did he have to compete with Cardale Jones for the starting job, but lost it within days of the season opener.

He'll also have a chance to keep rewriting the record books both at Ohio State and in the Big Ten.
