FOX News taps Tucker Carlson to fill Megyn Kelly's time slot

Carlson, 47, launched Tucker Carlson Tonight in November in the 7 p.m. time slot. Her start date at NBC hasn't been determined.

Murdoch described MacCallum as a "versatile and skilled anchor who has proven to be an essential component of our news programming". "She's demonstrated tremendous skill and poise, and we're lucky to have her".

The news was broken by Drudge Report and also reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Kelly may well avoid the fate of Couric, Cooper and Vieira, but it's hard to envision at this time how the hard-news skills she honed at Fox News will transfer to daytime television, which tends to be more entertainment oriented than news oriented.

Carlson, a conservative commentator and founder of The Daily Caller web site, is well-known to Fox fans. Her departure is giving Fox News executives the opportunity to create a seamless block that is less likely to alienate that group.

Fox said MacCallum recently signed a new multi-year deal with the network. Angered that she did not show "loyalty" to the network Bill O'Reilly went on to say "If somebody is paying you a wage, you owe that person or company allegiance". She got the fortune part right, as CBS News paid her $15 million a year to anchor the Evening News.

Megyn Kelly surprised the world by taking up a stand against Donald Trump as a Fox News anchor when the channel has always been lambasted for pushing conservative-biased news to its viewers. It has been a challenge in recent years for TV news stars to transfer their popularity to daytime programs and prime-time magazine shows. And Murdoch has told Fox executives that Trump asked him to submit names for FCC commissioner. They already know that Carlson has an audience, and while they could have made an even bolder move (Tomi Lahren is a name that's been discussed by many fans out there), this is one that will probably perform very well for them. She reportedly turned down a $20 million offer to stay at Fox.

Honestly, we're thrilled to see Megyn making the major move as she DEFINITELY deserves it. "We hope she enjoys tremendous success in her career and wish her and her family all the best". All four women have appeared on The Kelly File in the past.

For a network that saw its iconic creator and chairman, Roger Ailes, resign amid a sexual harassment scandal last July, moving on swiftly from Kelly's announcement was vintage Fox.
