Carmelo Anthony trade rumors: Knicks tried to ship Melo to Cavs

Anthony's future with the Knicks has become a daily topic of conversation despite his no-trade clause, amid widespread suspicions that team president Phil Jackson wants to move him and start anew with second-year forward Kristaps Porzingis as New York's centerpiece.

Even though the idea of LeBron and Melo playing on the same team, especially in the NBA Finals against the potential team of the decade, would've been fun, it looks like we're never going to see it. But that didn't stop Anthony from saying James wants to join forces with him. "I do think he would want me to play with him. I don't think I'm the only playmaker in the NBA", Anthony said, via the New York Post. "I just know me, personally, I don't got no time to waste". I think it would be a collective effort on all fronts, not just mine. If anything, Cleveland is searching for another role player to eat up minutes and save LeBron's legs for the playoffs.

"I don't think about it - not something I think about right now". I can't think about that. "It would be something I would always think about, shoulda, coulda woulda", he said. "You know I'm not thinking about that".

Here's hoping it blows over quickly as Anthony and the Knicks attempt to pull themselves back into the postseason picture. He's younger and has been part of the Cavaliers' success over the last two-plus seasons.

The timing though is interesting with Anthony having endured the latest round of a falling out with Jackson in recent days.

But Anthony met with Jackson and general manager Steve Mills and told them that as long as the team wanted him he still wanted to be with the Knicks and to win in NY. "Yes", Anthony said before the Knicks' morning shootaround on Wednesday. "It's hard to answer that when you're in the midst of your career".

According to a Wednesday afternoon report from Chris Haynes and Marc Stein of ESPN, the New York Knicks have tried to engage in trade talks with the Cleveland Cavaliers. I'm in a different situation than him. I have to be careful what I say here. I'll be 33 [next] winter, and I ain't got time to waste.
