BJP's Sakshi Maharaj Blames Muslims Again For India's Population

The alleged hate speech of Sakshi Maharaj came days after the Supreme Court passed an order prohibiting any use of religion, caste, race, community or language to seek votes. Jha also demanded from the BJP's central leadership to take necessary action against Sakshi.

"If country is facing problem dur to population rise then the Hindus are not responsible for it.Population rise is due to those who support the concept of four wives and 40 children", addressing an event in Meerut the lawmaker said on Friday.

Congress' KC Mittal has said that the party will move the Election Commission.

"I said four wives and forty children will not be allowed, can not be allowed". The cleric said that the Supreme Court and Election Commission of India should take cognizance of his statement and should initiate an action against him immediately since the Uttar Pradesh elections are around the corner.

"The BJP leader's communal remarks are a trick to divert attention from promises made by PM Modi". PTI had reported that the Supreme Court in a majority verdict, held that any appeal for votes on the ground of religion amounts to corrupt practices under electoral laws. "Elections can not be won by creating a stressful environment", Senior Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal told ANI.

EC sources here said a report has been sought from the district authorities over the statement and thereafter will assess whether it is a violation of the election model code of conduct or not.

However, BJP has distanced itself from his statement.

"This shouldn't be seen as BJP's stand".

Reacting to Maharaj's remarks, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told Times Now that such a statement could not be BJP's position.
