You can get McDonald's delivered to your door in January

McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD ) is planning to start delivering meals to customers next year.

San Francisco-based company Uber, which is known for its taxi services, launched food delivery in San Francisco, Chicago and other cities in 2015 and has since expanded to several other major metro areas.

The test, set to begin in late January, will span 200 restaurants in Orlando, Tampa and Miami, McDonald's said.

Customers can order and have their food delivered to their door with the UberEATS application or website. The customer can make the payment on their smartphone and reportedly track the progress of his or her order as well.

UberEATS now serves 50 cities around the world. And there may be a gap in the market: though delivery service continues to grow, fast-food chains have been slow to adopt delivery. The Oak Brook-based burger chain has almost 500 redesigned restaurants around the country so far, including one in Chicago at Chicago Avenue and State Street that adopted the new concept earlier this year. A person familiar with the plan said the deal has not yet been signed. "In an article on CNBC last month, in which McDonald's plans to implement things such as" table service" and "craft burgers" were discussed, it was described how the McDonald's goal is to be "a modern and progressive burger company.
