With early deals, how much will Cyber Monday buyers spend?

Inc said it is on pace to have its "best Cyber Monday in history", and said orders placed on its mobile app are higher than a year ago.

Four of the seven categories - which also include furniture and personal-care items - that First Data tracks showed slower sales growth in stores compared with online. Cartwheel, Target's digital app, started offering holiday deals including 50 percent off one toy per day on November 1.

Though won't disclose actual sales figures, it's said to have generated about 36% of all online sales during last year's Cyber Monday.

E-commerce retailer, recently bought by Wal-Mart for over $3 billion, attributed the rise in online sales over the past five days to a return to buying after the distraction of the November 8 presidential election. HookLogic's client data also shows that Cyber Monday 2016 drew 15.2% more online shoppers than a year ago.

More than 50 percent Wal-Mart's Black Friday promotions, both online and stores, were on consumer electronics, compared with 33 percent at Amazon and 20 percent at Target, according researcher Clavis Insight. It estimates that mobile is accounting for about 38% of sales. The day after Thanksgiving, called Black Friday, is typically the biggest shopping day of the year in the United States. Retailers offer a lot of online discounts all year long, and deepen them around holiday season, even before Black Friday. Per a Bankrate (RATE, $11.00, Hold, Andrew Jeffrey) survey, just 23% of adults plan to shop in stores on Black Friday, down from 28% two years ago.

"It may not be the exact lowest price but it was a really good deal", she said.

Target Corp (TGT.N) trimmed product offers by 10 percent on Cyber Monday.

IBM said global retailers saw a 24 percent increase in online sales as the weekend kicked off, with a major British retailer reporting 2,100 hits per second in the early hours of Black Friday.

Promotions have changed in response to buying patterns.

Madison Agnello took advantage of the early online sales, picking up a 43-inch LG 4K Smart TV at half of its original $600 price tag the week before Cyber Monday.

These patterns may also help explain why social media mentions of Cyber Monday have fallen a staggering 82 percent compared with a year ago: People have already gotten their goods, or they're planning to hold out for the next round of discounts. Instead of door-buster markdowns on a select few products, retailers are shifting to a stream of discounts and alerts during the entire week via email and social media.
