UN Celebrates National Consensus Government Formed in Lebanon

He has considerable political experience: In 2005, he was appointed as administrative reforms minister in the government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and he was a state minister in Hariri's' 2009 government. Hariri said preserving the "stability that is prevailing in Lebanon amid fires that are prevailing around the region" will be "at the top of its list of priorities".

The Phalangist party declined an invitation to be involved in the 30-minister government and is the only main political group that will not be involved in running the country.

Lebanon is a neighboring country to Syria but it has been able to stop the war from crossing over its border. Along with the State Ministry for Women's Affairs, four other new ministries have also been established: State Ministry for Refugees Affairs, State Ministry to Combat Terrorism, State Ministry for Presidential Affairs, and State Ministry for Human Rights.

The emergence of Saad al-Hariri, a Sunni Muslim leader of the Free Movement Muslim party, as the prime minister is explained to be a part of the agreement that led to the emergence of President Micahel Aoun, a Maronite Christian, in October, putting an end to a 29-month electoral crisis. He called for the cooperation of the Lebanese and their optimism.

It indicated that among the new portfolios are an anti-corruption post and a minister for women's affairs.

Welcoming the announcement of new Cabinet members in Lebanon, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed hope that the new Government will ensure that the country's forthcoming parliamentary election is successfully conducted within the timeframe set by the constitution, according to his spokesman.
