Trump the campaign trail showman returns on 'Thank you' tour

Donald Trump, who is on what he calls a "thank you" tour, saluted his supporters in OH and made a surprise announcement that he will be offering the position of defense chief to retired Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis.

In Cincinnati, during his first rally on his "thank you" tour, the president-elect brought back his brawling campaign style.

"He said, 'Congratulations, that was fantastic, '" Trump recalled, telling the crowd that Kasich called him after he won the election.

"We are going to appoint James "Mad Dog" Mattis as our secretary of Defense", Trump said.

Trump, who ran for the presidency on anti-establishment platform, appeared to be back in campaign form Thursday, speaking to a large group of supporters for the first time since his victory speech November 8.

"I will be leaving my great business in total in order to fully focus on running the country in order to make America great again", he tweeted in a series of missives sent before dawn. Trump asked the crowd, who responded by chanting, "Lock her up!"

Also during Wednesday's Hannity interview, Trump claimed that his administration won't have to launch a lot of executive orders since Democrats are going to "join the train".

Mr. Trump repeated many of his campaign promises that are now his governing agenda, including repealing and replacing Obamacare, cutting taxes and federal regulations, defeating the Islamic State terror group, also known as ISIS, and stopping illegal immigration.

"That he wants to do this, to take time out of his schedule to fly out here and personally thank the people. shows what kind of man he is", said Josh Kanowitz, 43.

He has interviewed several candidates for secretary of state, including the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, who attacked Trump throughout the 2016 campaigns but lately has spoken glowingly of the president-elect.

On Wednesday, Trump announced Steve Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs executive who served as his campaign finance chairman, as his choice for treasury secretary and Wilbur Ross, a private equity investor, as his pick for secretary of commerce.

The rally in Cincinnati was the second stop on a victory lap through the Midwest on Thursday, coming hours after Trump saluted workers, owners and himself at a Carrier plant in Indiana.

Earlier in the day, Trump and Pence were in IN visiting Carrier, a furnace company that agreed to keep about 1,000 jobs in that state rather than relocating them to Mexico. "So you'll be seeing nearly all of them next week", he added. "It's going to be a real wall, because we're going to stop the drugs from coming in". "We're going to get together, and I believe they want to get together". "You have to understand, we can't allow this to happen anymore with our country".

In order to keep the United States safe from further attacks, Trump said he will suspend immigration "from regions where it can not be safely processed", including some countries in the Middle East.

"We have tremendous people joining the Cabinet and beyond the Cabinet".

Seth Martin, a spokesman for Carrier, said IN offered the air conditioning and furnace manufacturer $7 million IN tax incentives after negotiations with Trump's team to keep some jobs IN the state.

The president-elect, however, said the change was not going to be easy but urged Americans to "be the agent of good and positive change for our country".

Over the past few weeks, Trump has mainly been holed up in the Trump Tower in New York City, weighing who to name to top jobs in his incoming administration.
