Porzingis, Knicks outlast Towns, Wolves 106-104

You can guarantee that Tom Thibodeau will have his team ready to play that time to match the intensity and energy the Knicks bench brought last night. His jumper with 2.3 seconds left gave the Knicks a 106-104 win.

It was a special night for Towns, but the Timberwolves got no help from their second unit.

Porzingis 11-20 4-5 29, Anthony 5-16 3-4 14, Rose 5-12 0-0 11, O'Quinn 1-2 0-1 2, C.Lee 3-3 0-0 7, Jennings 5-14 0-0 12, Kuzminskas 5-9 0-0 14, Ju.Holiday 1-8 0-0 2, Mr.Plumlee 1-1 2-3 4, Vujacic 2-4 0-0 5, W.Hernangomez 2-2 2-2 6, Ndour 0-0 0-0 0.

"It's a unusual thing because I nearly think sometimes when he's exhausted, he'll shoot it better because he'll shoot it on the way up [as he's ascending into the shot]".

Towns was a monster, converting his first nine shot attempts of the night en route to a career-high 47 points and 18 rebounds. "He was playing an overall game, and it was really hard to stop him".

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich rested stars Pau Gasol, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker on the second night of back-to-back games.

"Melo made a good play". He concluded the opening quarter with 22 points on 8-of-8 shooting and hauled in seven rebounds. He's always talking to me. He went 15-for-22 from the field and made 17 of 20 free throws.

"I had miscues where I let things slide away", Towns said, via Jace Frederick of the St. Paul Pioneer Press:. Minnesota has lost two straight games, has gone 3-7 in its last 10 games, and is a pedestrian 3-5 at home this season. It's the third game this season that Noah has missed because of injury.

Towns had one of the best quarters of the National Basketball Association season, when he dropped 22 points on 8-for-8 shooting in the first.

But the Spurs battled back. "Obviously, Patty knocked down four or five shots in a row".

The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, Towns ridiculous stat line put him in rarefied air.

The first step on Friday will be finding a way to contain Towns, who blew by his previous career high of 35 points by the third quarter.

Nevertheless, he found plenty of fault with his game.

"That's why he's one of the NBA's best-ever pure scorers, " Towns said. He added 18 rebounds, two assists, one steal, and three blocks. He drew some loose ball fouls as his motor never stopped as he provided the Knicks a much-needed boost. They tied the score at 102-102 on a three-pointer by Zach LaVine, and knotted it at 104-104 with 24.2 seconds left on two free throws by Towns.

Jeff Hornacek said the Knicks lacked toughness in their loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder earlier in the week. "Just the confidence in Carmelo being a 10-time All-Star, that's what those guys do". Brandon Jennings played point guard in the final minutes and finished with 12 points and seven assists.
