OH NO! There's A Whipped Cream Shortage Just Before Christmas

OH NO! There's A Whipped Cream Shortage Just Before Christmas

Lanie Friedman, a spokeswoman for Conagra Foods, confirmed to FoxNews.com that there is now a nationwide shortage of some of its whipped topping products, including Reddi-wip.

If you can't imagine the holidays without whipped cream "fresh" from a can, now might be a great time to learn to make your own.

As Ben Guarino explains at WaPo, it does appear that we will not be without whipped cream forever. One worker reportedly died in the explosion. And right now, Airgas is prioritizing getting the gas to medical customers ahead of whipped cream makers, the Omaha World Herald reported.

In November, the Purchasing Association of Private Clubs told its members that Conagra halted production of Reddi-wip.

Supplies of the popular whipped toppings like Reddi-wip and other canned brands are running low across the United States ahead of the holiday season because of shortfalls of nitrous oxide, according to emerging media reports.

The accident curbed nitrous oxide production.

Check your supermarket for posted signs proclaiming the shortage.

A Conagra spokeswoman said in a statement that people should "stock up early" if they want their pecan pies topped with whipped cream this December, but that they expect everything to be back to normal by 2017. The shortage also impacts such products as the spray versions of Cool Whip, made by Kraft Heinz. Of course, whipped cream will still be purchasable in grocery stores across the country; there's no just guarantee that it'll actually be available.
