Netflix launches new download feature for offline viewing

Members will want to make sure they have the most recent Netflix app on their devices to access the new "download" button.

Not all movies and series are ready for download but most of the people's favorites are available for both Android and iOS users among the Netflix members.

They can then watch it later without an internet connection.

In a Wednesday announcement, popular streaming service Netflix said that it is launching the much-awaited "downloads for offline viewing" option to give its almost 87 million subscribers the ability to access offline videos. There is a new "Available for Download" tab in the updated app.

The feature, which will be offered as a alternative to streaming content using an internet connection, comes at no extra cost. The company says that more will be made available soon.

You'll find Orange Is the New Black, Narcos, and The Crown already available for download - but not everything is available.

Inc., which runs a rival video streaming service, has allowed users to download select shows and movies for about a year.

The latest versions of the company's mobile apps include a "download" button on the details page for a film or TV series - although not all titles on the streaming service are now available to watch offline.

Netflix now is making movies and shows available for the times when internet is not an option.

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings had earlier alluded to the unveiling of this new service by telling reporters that downloadable content was something Netflix was looking into but without offering further details on the company's plans.
