'Starship Troopers' Reboot in the Works

'Starship Troopers' Reboot in the Works

Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, and Neil Patrick Harris starred in the film but mostly shied away from the ensuing string of direct-to-video sequels until Casper bit the bullet and returned for Starship Troopers 3: Marauder in 2008.

One that has a lot of potential is the Starship Troopers film, which we're hearing will be going back to the original novel whereas the 1997 Paul Verhoeven film went more for outright satire with. The writers are the duo Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, the men behind the upcoming Baywatch movie starring Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson.

Yet, between the Total Recall remake and the remake of Verhoeven's Robocop (1987), revisiting Starship Troopers doesn't actually seem all that bad an idea.

Fast & Furious franchise producer Neal H. Moritz is said to be working with Toby Jaffe, after the pair previously collaborated on the 2012 studio remake of 90s sci-fi flick Total Recall.

It seems inevitable that a "Starship Troopers" movie reboot will come these days. Don't fret though - Variety have announced that Columbia are digging deep into the recent past and are bringing a new team to adapt Starship Troopers once again.

There is also much Verhoeven omitted in his late '90s from the Heinlein novel.

Of course, the movie has yet to be made - or even written - which allows for any number of changes to be made to safeguard the future Starship Troopers against such trouble.

We'll know more in the coming months, I suppose, as this project develops.
