Oklahoma City airport closed by shooting

Tactical teams are conducting a search of the airport for the suspect, a police spokesperson said.

However, police say they will bus passengers from the airport to a safe spot. Southwest Airlines (LUV.N) said it had cancelled all its inbound and outbound flights at the airport until 6 p.m.

The airport was closed by police after the shooting and the only aircraft that has been allowed to land is a Federal Transfer Center aircraft carrying federal prisoners to a transfer center on airport property.

Transcript sports writer John Shinn confirmed the men's basketball team left Will Rogers World Airport at around noon and is now boarding a flight to Orlando.

The airport suspended operations and maps posted at the FlightAware website showed that at least one flight was diverted to the Wiley Post Airport in the northwestern part of the city.

However, Oklahoma City media reports that police do not believe there is a second victim.

She added that 7,000 to 8,000 travellers go through the airport daily.

OKC police confirmed the shooting in a tweet and urged travelers to avoid the airport.

It is unclear if the shooter and victim knew each other, but "we have some basic information who the suspect might be", Balderrama said.

Mr Balderrama said all streets are blocked off and people should avoid the airport.

People at the airport are urged to take shelter.

The airport is the main commercial air hub for Oklahoma City and provides an average of 150 flights a day, the airport said.
