Newton sacked 5 times, still leads Panthers past Rams 13-10

Boy, that was ugly.

In their franchise's first game in Los Angeles, the Panthers found a way with defense. Wait, nevermind - I know how they did. The Panthers defense has allowed the lowest yards per carry in the National Football League, while the Rams offense has produced the second lowest in that category. The last five quarterbacks before Goff that were drafted No. 1 overall started the season opener.

"You have a tendency at times to start a little slower", Fisher said of teams coming off a bye, "but I don't anticipate that with our guys. This is a good defense". The Rams committed 10 penalties on the day for 109 yards in lost momentum, and the defending NFC champions from Carolina took advantage by holding the ball for 34:10 of game time in a game that really demonstrated all the flaws the L.A. roster and staff possess. Lance Kendricks had 55 yards in seven receptions. The Rams came into this game 30th in scoring at 17.1 points per game, and the offense couldn't do much worse than it did today.

Oh well, they didn't and we won. Defensively, the Rams are yielding 22.0 points and 343.3 total yards (239.0 in passing and 104.3 in rushing) per game. Carolina is allowing 36.7 points away from Bank of America Stadium. The Panthers won't score on defense, but one of their interceptions will set up a score.

The real losers yesterday were the fans who had to sit through that slop-fest.

Greg Olsen is the man. 'Nuff said.

Carolina was victimized early in the season by Atlanta's Matt Ryan and New Orleans' Drew Brees, who threw for a combined 968 yards and eight touchdowns. The fourth-round pick out of Western Kentucky had entered the game with just two receptions for six yards. Benjamin is almost unstoppable when he's on, and he was on yesterday.

The old man's still got it, y'all.

"He threw the ball in my direction, and I was like, 'Come down with this football by any means necessary'". Seriously, look at this. "You have to make the tough ones".

It was neat seeing him play special teams. That got him an audience with Goodell. The Rams didn't record another first down until the third play of the second quarter. As well as Gradkowski played when he replaced Kalil in the first half against Arizona, he'll be facing a stiffer challenge in defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who has 23 sacks in two and a half seasons. I was very impressed with his production yesterday, and I'm glad he's part of our defensive line rotation.

"A lot of people want to put the blame on him and, you know, he's used to that - that's what quarterbacks do", Gurley said, adding, "We're with him and support him and we're going to keep riding with him". "I care, too. I put a lot into this, a lot of hours". Keenum completed his first two pass attempts but then had his next three deflected and fall incomplete. Let that sink in for a minute.

Instead of bursts of ability, Robinson needs a consistent release of his talent, Los Angeles offensive coordinator Rob Boras said.

They also have few excuses. The Saints' game was his first time playing since missing one game due to sustaining a concussion against Atlanta. Luckily it didn't cost the Panthers a win. "That practice Wednesday, I thought it was great".

That's been the plan nearly from the moment the Rams selected Goff, at which point they hoisted themselves onto two separate train tracks. I'm getting ready to play the Jets [on Sunday]. Get that mess straightened out, Graham.

Quarterback Case Keenum heard it, and the sentiment frustrated him. Johnson traveled to England with the club, using the time to get constant rehabilitation work on his leg.
