Gators' loss to Arkansas shows gap between SEC West and East

The Razorbacks made tweaks on both sides of the ball during their bye week, then dominated No. 11 Florida in a 31-10 romp Saturday.

"To play a top 10 again - I believe that's our sixth ranked opponent this year - I knew we'd fare well because they love the challenge", Arkansas Coach Bret Bielema said.

"When we get over 150 (yards rushing), I think my winning percentage is really good", Bielema said. While coaching Wisconsin, Bielema said he was honored to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the seventh-inning stretch of a Cubs-Phillies game at Wrigley Field.

Missouri soccer had its SEC Tournament hopes dashed quickly, with a first round exit against Florida Wednesday night in Orange Beach, Alabama.

"We have a great relationship in the offensive line and quarterback room".

That stingy Hogs defense sent a message early. Besides their 12-yard day rushing the ball, quarterback Luke Del Rio threw for only 229 yards and had two passes intercepted. I haven't been one, because my ears on the ground at practice still tell me that Del Rio is the best way for the Gators to win right now. Obviously, when you lose, that's part of the position of playing QB. Arkansas also is tied for the most in the nation by giving up 14 runs of at least 30 yards and 10 runs of at least 40 yards. The Gators' only touchdown came on an interception return for a score by Duke Dawson. Keon Hatcher led in receiving with 81 yards in seven receptions while Drew Morgan had 42 yards in four receptions.

The Hogs, who have seven freshmen or sophomores among the 10 offensive linemen on their two-deep depth chart, are surpassed only by SC in giving up the most sacks in the SEC (21).

Second half: Florida's third quarter was abysmal (two first downs) and the fourth quarter was nearly meaningless. The Hogs offense exploded in the fourth-quarter. Florida only had one offensive drive end in points and that was a 50-yard field goal.

And Arkansas outgained the Gators by more than 200 yards despite a spate of holding penalties, and held the ball for almost 20 more minutes, and allowed Florida to convert just one of 11 third downs, and tallied more than 200 yards on the ground and through the air was bad. Antonio Callaway and Brandon Powell have combined for 659 receiving yards and four touchdowns while DeAndre Goolsby has 26 receptions. That is 192 yards, .67 touchdowns, and two interceptions per contest. Sophomore Rawleigh Williams III has also had a big year on the ground, totaling 807 yards and five touchdowns, but will have to rebound after registering a season-low 22 yards against Auburn.

"That's our identity", Williams said. Florida's streak is the third-longest in major-college history, behind Michigan's 365-game run, which lasted from 1984 through 2014, and BYU's 361 from 1975 into 2003.

Arkansas offensive-line coach Kurt Anderson described what sets the Gators apart defensively.

"They showed us how it hurt them, too, and how they still put on the Razorback red and how we have to take control of this", Agim said.

It was the Razorbacks first-ever SEC win against Florida, which had won the nine previous conference meetings. The win makes the Hogs bowl eligible for the third-straight season.
