Election Day: Americans choose between Clinton and Trump

The real estate tycoon reassured followers he's leading in most battleground states, though national polls show him trailing closely behind Clinton. The election hinges on a series of swing states: Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

In his speech, Trump criticized Clinton, focusing on the "33,000 emails [she deleted] after receiving a congressional subpoena", despite the announcement yesterday by Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey in which he stood by the earlier decision not to prosecute Clinton.

Races in both those states were shifting from favoring Clinton to being too close to call. It has only four electoral college votes but will be fascinating as it has been in the eye of the late Trump surge.

As American voters go to the polls, what should we be looking for?

In the final hours of campaigning on Monday night, the candidates and their political allies hit the campaign trail hard, stopping off at major battleground states across the U.S. in a last-ditch effort to sway voters.

Mr Trump, who also notched up thousands of air miles as he flew between the states likely to decide the election, repeated his message that the presidential vote is "rigged" and allegations that his rival is "corrupt".

Hours after the FBI announced on Sunday that it had again cleared her, Trump and his campaign questioned the bureau's decision anew.

"Now it's up to the American people to deliver justice at the ballot box", Trump said. On top of the open racism, unlike the coded racism Republicans use to sop up the extreme right wing, Trump has a foreign policy that is hard to pin down, as opposed to the unified interventionist streak the GOP has backed since Reagan, and has threatened to renege on America's treaties.

Trump on November 7 also continued to portray himself as the target of a conspiracy between political elites and mainstream USA media to keep him out of office, telling supporters: "The system is rigged, but at least we know it".

Critics of Trump have called Trump's rhetoric a unsafe challenge to the legitimacy of the USA political system - including his refusal to say whether he would concede to Clinton if official results show her as the victor.

First, he says he will jail Hillary Clinton.

Clinton will hold two events in Pennsylvania, one in MI and another one in North Carolina, while Trump is scheduled to be in Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and MI.

Hitting out at Trump's aides who took control of his Twitter account, Obama said if the Republican nominee's closest aides do not trust him to tweet then he should not be trusted with nuclear codes.

It was officially election day on the East Coast when Hillary Clinton stepped to the podium here at the final rally of her campaign, a years-long crusade that will soon make her either the country's first woman president or the victim of a crushing defeat.

Other big names making appearances in the state yesterday included Republican vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence; Clinton's daughter, Chelsea; and Trump's children, Ivanka and Donald Junior. PredictIt put her chances of capturing the White House at 81 percent.

That website's founder, Nate Silver, correctly predicted the results from all 50 states in the 2012 US presidential election.

In Florida, a record 6.4 million early ballots are already in, or more than three-fourths of the expected vote, AP said, with Democrats ahead by 39.9 percent to 38.5 percent.

Clinton was to campaign in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as well as Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Raleigh, North Carolina.

"It does mean that people are actively gathering and reading information in the last hours before Election Day", he said.
