Blue Jackets rout NHL-leading Canadiens 10-0

"I did a good job of getting body positioning on him and I was trying to separate from him and as I went to go get the puck to push it forward he gave me just a nice little touch right on my stick which whacked it right to the net front", Shattenkirk said. We did a lot of really good things.

Give the Montreal Canadiens credit.

Price won his 10th straight start, improving to 20-2-0 in last 22 regular-season starts. Jake Allen is a capable option in the St. Louis crease and forced the team's hand in the offseason as they were able to let go of Brian Elliott and so far the move looks to have paid off.

There is one important note about the game, however. Michal Neuvirth made 12 saves. Brandon Saad and Sam Gagner each scored a pair of goals in the first period and Sergei Bobrovsky took it from their stopping all 35 of the Ducks shots. In his place was poor, poor Al Montoya, who faced 40 shots, letting in a quarter of them. Markov got his team on the board 1:06 into the first period. The Canadiens dropped to 9-1-1.

Tanev broke a tie on a breakaway, beating Petr Mrazek on the glove side. Montoya managed 30 saves and still got strafed for double-digit goals. Jakub Voracek picked up the rebound of Michael Del Zotto's point shot and fired over to Gostisbehere in the right circle.

The second period is when the bulk of Columbus' damage was done.

The Flyers dominated the second period, outshooting the Canadiens, 15-3, but allowing the only goal in the period and fell into a 3-2 hole. "Obviously we've got two young guys playing back there, inexperienced guys".

- Despite six goals at even strength, Shea Weber, Torrey Mitchell, Alexei Emelin, Bryan Flynn and Phillip Danault all recorded plus/minuses of 0.

Saturday's contest was the second game of a back-to-back for Montreal. "Mike Babcock had me celebrate that milestone", Hitchcock added.

The Jackets win over Montreal was so lopsided that Blues coach Ken Hitchcock didn't use it as a teaching tool. Columbus does not play again until Wednesday.

"It was a good play by (Scottie Upshall)", Bouwmeester said. Nobody's going to feel sorry for us. "We're going to see how we come out but I believe in everyone in this locker room".

Entering Friday's game, the Canadiens were the only team in the National Hockey League to not lose in regulation.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Blue Jackets. The Flyers scratched C Nick Cousins and D Nick Schultz, while C Boyd Gordon and D Andrew MacDonald missed their third and second games, respectively, with injury. Meanwhile, Wayne Simmonds and Matt Read each have six of their own, not to mention Claude Giroux who leads the Flyers with 13 points to-date.
