But while the unemployment rate shrank, so did the number of nonfarm jobs in Adams County, said Don Meseck, regional labor economist for the Washington Employment Security Department.

The labor force is comprised of those now on the job and earning a paycheck, as well as those actively looking for work.

Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives Director Jason Palmer said Michigan's labor force growth of 1.5 percent so far in 2016 has outpaced the national rate of 1.2 percent. That total in October was 4,945,950.

". there's nothing you can sugarcoat when we're down to only 3,000 jobs year over year added in the state".

In October, 70,200 jobs were posted statewide on Employ Georgia, the GDOL's online job listing service at employgeorgia.com. The largest private sector job gains by percentage over the year have occurred in the fields of construction; professional, scientific and business services; education and health services; and leisure and hospitality. The number of STEM jobs, those in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, represented 35 percent of those new postings. However, over the year, claims were down by 274, or 0.9 percent, from 29,629 in October 2015.
