No injuries after Pence plane slides off runway in NYC

US Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence's plane slides off runway at LaGuardia Airport in NY in heavy rain.

Airline employees communicated that the delay at LaGuardia kept the Trump-Pence plane on the tarmac in Iowa due to rain and high traffic at the LaGuardia airport.

It skidded off the runway, fishtailing and causing damage to the runway, but the Republican vice presidential candidate assured reporters that he was okay afterwards and that no one aboard the plane was injured.

NYCEM, New York City's official emergency management system, said on Twitter after the incident that LaGuardia Airport was closed until further notice.

New York City's emergency notification system says LaGuardia is now "closed until further notice".

Clinton tweeted she was "glad to hear" Pence and the other passengers were safe.

Pence sent out a tweet Thursday evening thanking first responders, and saying he will be back on the campaign trail tomorrow.

Donald Trump's campaign spokesman, Stephanie Grisham, said the business tycoon called Pence shortly after the incident.

Trump told supporters in Geneva, Ohio, that Pence had been in "grave, grave danger", but was now OK.

A spokeswoman for Donald Trump said Trump called Pence from OH after the incident, and was "very glad everyone on board the plane is safe", according to NBC News. But, he added: "I just spoke to Mike Pence and he's fine".

Port Authority said airport officials are hopeful flights will resume soon.

There were 37 people aboard the plane, according to New York's WPIX.
