Mourinho humiliated on Chelsea return as Man United lose 4-0

"Maybe there was something to do with certain Chelsea players wanting to answer Jose Mourinho, who was very critical of them when he was sacked last season".

"We were coming to have an offensive approach, we wanted to create chances, we showed that after the 1-0".

Another suggested that he couldn't bear to see him at Manchester United, while others were adamant that fans should cheer Mourinho upon his return.

Hazard bent a shot into the bottom-right corner from Nemanja Matic's pass before Kante strolled through the beleaguered United defence to roll in his first Chelsea goal.

The Blues got off to the best possible start as they opened the scoring inside the first minute through Pedro.

David De Gea simplified his task no end by rushing off his line prematurely and Pedro simply took the ball around his Spain worldwide team-mate and fired the ball into an unguarded net.

Thibaut Courtois was forced into a smart double save midway through the half as Herrera tested the Belgian from long range before he quickly recovered to keep out Lingard's follow-up.

In the 52nd minute United were forced to a second change as Eric Bailly went off injured and was replaced by Marcos Rojo.

United offered little sign of making a comeback after failing to capitalise on their good spell in the second half and they fell further behind when Eden Hazard drilled in a precise 15-yard strike to make it 3-0.

With 20 minutes remaining Kante dribbled between the utterly anonymous Paul Pogba and Smalling to send a cool finish past De Gea to put the result beyond doubt.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte gives instructions to his players. Only against Barcelona in November 2010 did he lose by a greater margin in all competitions (5-0).

After nine games, United has fewer points (14) than at this stage a year ago under Van Gaal (19) and sits seventh in the standings - six points behind pacesetters Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Chelsea nearly doubled their lead on 14 minutes but Eden Hazard's low shot from Pedro's swing cross from a corner narrowly went wide. He was also booked after 59 seconds for his celebration, the quickest yellow this season in the Premier League. I gave everything to the club.

Jose Mourinho didn't have a pleasant return to the Chelsea stronghold he led to 7 titles.
