Monday's lawsuit took aim at Mobile Star because, after buying a dozen iPhone chargers and cables from Amazon, the e-tailer told Apple the products had been supplied by Mobile Star.

According to the lawsuit [PDF], Mobile Star illegally used Apple's trademark to sell the products, which were not safety tested and posed risks to consumers.

"Consumers, relying on's reputation, have no reason to suspect the power products they purchased from are anything but genuine".

In this September 16, 2016, file photo, Lisa Gao, from Chicago, compares a new jet black iPhone 7, right, with her iPhone 6 at an Apple Store in Chicago. While the "Fulfillment by Amazon" tag gives buyers confidence that purchased products will be delivered, it gives no assurance that the items are genuine.

Apple has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against a company it says flooded Amazon with counterfeit and unsafe iPhone chargers.

Amazon has long struggled to contain counterfeiting in its freewheeling Marketplace, a platform for third-party merchants to sell on When Apple brought this to Amazon's attention, the latter reported that the counterfeit products were sourced from Mobile Star. The company demanded that all counterfeit products by Mobile Star need to be discontinued and destroyed.

The report apparently revealed that counterfeit Apple charging products "often lack the safety features necessary to protect users from shock and fire hazards". So, the tech giant filed a trademark infringement cases against Mobile Star LLC.

But when Apple purchased 100 chargers or other supposed Apple devices, it claims, it found that about 90 of them were fakes. The fake products have been removed from sale.

Here is a short video about identifying genuine from counterfeit products. They also added that they are determined to pursue the wrongdoers aggressively. Checking Amazon product reviews could be a great help to be knowledgeable about the product's customer feedback.

While it may look like a bargain to get Apple products off of Amazon, it might just be worth spending the extra money and getting the real thing without having to worry about the charger causing your iPhone 7 to explode.
