Bank places 100 fake pennies worth 100000 cents each

A bank is planting 100 fake pennies in cities across the country that the lucky finders can redeem for $1,000.

The contest began Tuesday and continues through the end of the year.

In addition to Chicago, the pennies were placed in Detroit, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Diego, Washington D.C., Austin, Texas; and Charlotte, N.C.

The pennies, from Ally Bank, have been hidden in plain sight and read "Lucky You 100,000 cents", according to the company.

In an effort to help participants, the bank is tweeting out hints for each city.

Anyone who finds one is told to enter the code found on the penny on the company's "lucky penny" website.

Sadly, Ally's Lucky Penny campaign was not brought to Oklahoma City.

"We hope that people will have fun searching for Ally Lucky Pennies in their cities and that the campaign will inspire people to look at money in a different way", said Andrea Riley, chief marketing officer for Ally.

Normal pennies, not the Ally ones.

"When found, Ally Lucky Pennies can be redeemed online from Oct.18 through December 31, 2016 at", the statement reads.
