Williams sisters on collision course at U.S. Open

It was the 307th major win for Williams, breaking the women's Open era record held by Martina Navratilova and pulling her into a tie with Roger Federer.

Larsson, who equaled her career-best finish at the U.S. Open by virtue of defeating Denisa Allertova in the second round, proved just why she is now in the midst of a career-best season, getting on the scoreboard a game later, much to the delight of a very appreciative crowd inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"I think I was playing good tennis from the beginning", she said.

"To be up there with both men and women is something that's super rare, and it actually feels good", Williams said. This is the 14th time she has reached last 16 at Flushing Meadows. "Something I didn't even know about until Wimbledon. I'm really proud that I could win it and come back from 3-1 down in the third set". "I had to play better, to be a little bit more aggressive", - Wawrinka after his battle with Evans.

Among the highlights was a picture-perfect drop shot hit from behind the baseline, while the usual Williams combination of power and precision was in full effect.

"I feel like I have been doing pretty good", she said, per Reuters (via the New York Times). "She played unbelievable second and third set".

The world No 1 is chasing a seventh US Open title that would give her an Open-era record of 23 Grand Slam titles, one more than Steffi Graf, and having eased through her first two matches at Flushing Meadows it was more of the same on Saturday.

The 307th Grand Slam win moves Williams into the fourth round of the U.S. Open.

The American superstar, seeking a record seventh US Open title, next faces Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova, a 6-2, 7-5 victor over China's Zhang Shuai. Her best result was a quarterfinal run in 2013, losing to eventual champion Serena Williams.

Ana Konjuh, and No. 10 Karolina Pliskova against Venus Williams. After racking up an ugly 63 unforced errors as she squeaked by Kozlova, Williams had 17 unforced errors Saturday.

It will be the 27-year-old Radwanska's fifth trip to the fourth round at the US Open but she has failed to advance beyond that stage in NY.

For her first day match on Arthur Ashe, Williams switched from evening black to afternoon white but the change in attire did nothing to change the outcome. However, she will have to be on top of her game if she is to defeat World Number 26, Laura.

Williams reached 121 miles per hour on a serve. "It's always something special, that's for sure", said Wawrinka, who had his left ankle taped after twisting it during the match.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Timea Babos put a scare into Romanian fifth seed Simona Halep, surging back in the second set and taking a 3-1 lead in the third before falling 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

Williams noted that female tennis players had been at the forefront of trying to achieve equality in their sport, and she said it was important for them to push for similar conditions for other female athletes.

"I feel OK", Williams said.
