Transgender child actor to guest star on 'Modern Family'

Episode director Ryan Case posted a picture with Millarker on Instagram with the caption: "This is Jackson Millarker".

She said: "This is Jackson Millarker". The eight-year-old actor will guest star as Lily's school friend, with Cam and Mitch pleased to see Lily making such a friend. Case writes that Millarker will play a boy named Tom, who's a friend of Lily. "[He] is one of the many reasons I love being part of this show", she stated.

The family comedy is set to feature an openly transgender child actor on Wednesday's episode, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

"Modern Family" has had 77 Emmy nominations and taken home 22 of the awards.

In the episode Cameron and Mitchell are pleased they have raised such an accepting daughter, that is until Lily insults her pal.

Modern family, which is now in its eighth season, has had 77 Emmy nominations and taken home 22 of the awards.

Perhaps the most famous transgender character on television is Transparent's Maura Pfefferman, played by male actor Jeffrey Tambor (who has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe for the role).

Millarker is the thought to be first transgender child actor to appear in a major television series, and it marks a major breakthrough for him. In its upcoming fifth season, CMT's Nashville has cast trans actress Jen Richards (Her Story) for a recurring role.

As it turns out, ABC's Modern Family was already working on casting transgender talent.
