Six wounded in shooting at strip mall in Houston

A Houston Police Department bomb squad was at the site of the shootings after a suspicious vehicle, believed to belong to the suspected shooter, was discovered ABC13 reported.

In a brief news conference outside the strip mall, Richard Mann, the executive assistant fire chief, said that some people were injured in their cars by flying glass.

Some witnesses have described the gunman firing dozens of shots at cars passing through the neighbourhood before he was engaged by police.

Police confirmed that they received a call that a firearm had been discharged at 6:29 a.m. Her husband's Mustang was sacked on at a parking lot near the strip mall. He estimated that between 30 and 50 shots were fired. "We have a couple that are more serious". She said she did not know the man well.

Jason Delgado, property manager of The Oaks condo complex, told KHOU-TV that there were two incidents with the suspect in the past few weeks.

Police tracked down and "engaged" with the shooter, who was eventually "neutralized", HFD said. He managed to flee and escape injury.

"One bullet hit here and the other here", he said, while pointing at the holes. The evidence in that case is pointing to radical Islamic terrorism. As he was being interviewed, neighbors came by and patted him on the back, thanking him for keeping people safe. The police said that "several people" were shot and taken to the hospital, but they did not immediately know the severity of the injuries.

Police said nine people were injured in the shooting, one critically and one seriously. It's very, very early.

"I literally heard the gunshots past my face", he told the station.

The former law partner of the man who randomly opened fire on vehicles in a Houston neighborhood disputes authorities' descriptions that he was a disgruntled lawyer with issues.

The investigation of the shooting is still ongoing.

A cameraman for Houston broadcaster KTRK witnessed the shooting.

The suspected gunman was fatally shot by officers who responded at the scene, she said.

Police says they are also investigating the gunman's apartment and his motive.
