On Russia-backed TV network, Trump doubts Russian influence

Congressional Republicans split today over Donald Trump's praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin during an NBC candidates' forum Wednesday night, with Sen.

Trump, who has faced backlash from both parties in recent days for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin, was interviewed by Larry King, a veteran American journalist whose show airs Thursday evenings on RT America, the us partner of a network originally called Russia Today.

The latest comments from Trump were made on RT America as sceptics have floated the idea that the Kremlin was attempting to sway the result of the upcoming election. "Who knows, but I think it's pretty unlikely", Trump told Larry King in the RT exclusive interview, while also criticizing USA foreign policy and the American media. "Maybe the Democrats are putting that out - who knows", Trump told Larry King during the interview. "Because that would not be appropriate at all".

Jason Miller, a Trump spokesman, told CNN the interview was recorded as a podcast and was a favor to King, adding, "Mr. Trump was never told it would be shared anywhere else". "Vladimir Putin is violating the sovereignty of neighboring countries", Ryan said.

Mike Pence on Thursday defended his running mate's statement that Vladimir Putin is a stronger leader than President Barack Obama, calling it "inarguable". And the appearance on Russian television suggested no hesitation from Trump to dive into the controversy. The FBI is now investigating the hack, though Putin has denied playing any role. Asked by King if he agreed with Putin's assessment, Trump declined to pass judgment.

"I've already said, he is really very much of a leader".

Addressing the issue head-on at a press conference on Thursday morning in NY - which Trump's team have said is her first in 278 days - Ms Clinton suggested she was sanguine about it. "I have absolutely no opinion on that". I think that it's pretty unlikely, but who knows.

Trump also weighed in on domestic politics, declining to criticize Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson for a gaffe he made earlier on Thursday and saying unequivocally that Johnson should not be in the general election debate later this month. "It's a very different system and I don't happen to like the system, but certainly, in that system, he's been a leader, far more than our President has been a leader". "I'd rather it be Hillary and myself, because we're the only two with a chance of winning".

While Trump has leveled similar criticism in the past, doing so on Russian television could draw more criticism from those who have questioned his overtures to Putin, including a number of Republicans.

Donald Trump will appear at the Value Voters Summit and then make a campaign stop in Sarasota, Florida. "I mean, I wish she did a phenomenal job, and we wouldn't have all these problems". "I don't like talking about it, I'll be honest with you", he said.

King's show, PoliticKing, is produced by Ora TV, which was founded by King and Mexican media magnate Carlos Slim in 2012.
